To ensure that electrical devices can be used safely and correctly in different countries, it is important to select the appropriate power plug as well as the electrical specifications of the power cable. Since plug and socket systems vary from country to country, the same device may require different power cable configurations for different markets.
For example, the plug systems used in Türkiye and many European countries differ from those used in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Israel and South Africa. Therefore, manufacturers, importers and OEM device producers involved in international trade should clearly identify the target country and the technical requirements of the product before placing an order.
As a manufacturer, Power Kablo evaluates standard and custom solutions for different country-specific plugs, device connections and cable specifications. You can explore our power cable solutions with plugs for various applications.
Electrical plugs and sockets may have different shapes and technical specifications depending on national electrical infrastructure and applicable standards. The physical design of a plug, its earthing arrangement, rated voltage and current, and applicable compliance requirements all affect product selection.
When preparing power cables for export, the following details should be considered together:
For example, a European-style plug and a British-style plug are not the same product. Simply changing the cable length is therefore not sufficient when preparing products for different countries.
Power cables for the European market should be selected according to the socket system of the destination country and the electrical requirements of the product. The Schuko plug system is widely used in many European applications. However, it should not be assumed that every European country and every device uses the same plug configuration.
You can learn more about this connection type in Power Kablo’s guide to the Schuko plug system.
The device-side connection is also important for computers, monitors and similar equipment. For example, the IEC C13-C14 power cable and the C5-C14 power cable are designed for different device connections.
Using a European-style plug does not automatically mean that a cable is suitable for every European market. The product must also be assessed against the plug requirements and applicable technical standards of the destination country.
The Type G plug used in the United Kingdom has a different physical design from European-style plugs. Therefore, devices intended for the UK market require a suitable British-style power cable.

When ordering a British-style power cable, it is important to check not only the plug shape but also the rated current, cable cross-section, device-side connection and compliance requirements applicable in the target market.
For export and OEM orders, the product specification should be as detailed as possible. In addition to specifying a “British plug power cable”, the order should include the cable length, conductor cross-section, device connection and other required technical specifications.
Type A plugs, which are commonly used in the United States, have a different physical connection design from European and British plugs. However, selecting a cable for the US market based solely on the plug shape is not sufficient.
The device’s voltage and current requirements, cable specifications and intended application must all be considered.
Power Kablo’s 2A, 110V American-style power cable is an example of a specific product. Its ratings should not be considered universal specifications for all American-style power cables.
For products intended for the US market, the device’s operating voltage and frequency, plug type, cable construction and applicable compliance requirements should be verified before production.
Australia uses the Type I plug system, which has a distinct connection geometry. Therefore, products intended for the Australian market must be equipped with the appropriate plug type.

In addition to the plug type, orders should specify the cable length, conductor cross-section, device-side connector and nominal electrical ratings. Since different devices have different requirements, cables with the same plug type should not automatically be assumed to have identical electrical specifications.
An Australian-style power cable must not be considered suitable solely because its plug physically fits the socket. The technical and regulatory requirements of the target market must also be evaluated.
When ordering power cables for the Israeli market, the plug standard used in the destination country must be correctly identified. The plug geometry and connection characteristics should be compatible with the product’s intended application.

The following details should be clearly specified in export orders:
Product specifications should not be determined solely by the appearance of the plug. The requirements of the target market and the electrical characteristics of the device must also be verified.
Products intended for the South African market must also use the correct connection system for the destination country. Different plug geometries and electrical requirements may mean that export products need to be evaluated individually.

When placing an order, the intended device, cable length, conductor cross-section, current rating and device-side connection should be clearly specified. Applicable standards and compliance requirements in the destination market should also be checked.
For serial production and OEM projects in particular, maintaining consistency between sample approval and the technical specification helps ensure that the order is manufactured correctly.
The country-specific plug defines only one end of a power cable. The device-side connector is equally important for ensuring that the product is suitable for its intended use.
Various IEC connections are used in computers, monitors, servers and other electronic equipment, depending on the application.
Common examples include:
These connector types have different physical designs and technical characteristics. One connector should not be assumed to be interchangeable with another simply because they look similar.
For more information about the IEC 60320 family, see our IEC 60320 standard guide and our article comparing C7, C13, C14 and other IEC power cables.
When preparing power cables for export, conductor cross-section and cable length are just as important as the plug type. The required cross-section must be determined according to current, cable length, voltage drop, installation or usage method, environmental conditions and applicable standards.
For example, cable constructions such as 3×0.75 mm², 3×1 mm², 3×1.5 mm² and 3×2.5 mm² represent different conductor cross-sections. Larger cross-sections, such as 4 mm², 6 mm², 10 mm² and above, may also be required for higher-current or other specialized applications. However, a cable’s suitable current-carrying capacity cannot be determined from its cross-section alone.
The cable’s technical specifications and actual operating conditions must be evaluated together. For further information, see our cable selection guide and our article on how to choose the right extension cable.
For orders requiring custom lengths or different conductor cross-sections, working with the manufacturer through a technical specification helps ensure that the product is prepared according to the application requirements.
In OEM projects, the same device family may be sold in different countries. In such cases, the device-side connection may remain the same while the mains-side plug changes according to the target market. However, this decision must be made in accordance with the device design, electrical requirements and applicable regulations.

Country-specific plug standards are an essential consideration when selecting power cables. Products intended for markets such as Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Israel and South Africa must be evaluated according to plug type, device connection, conductor cross-section, cable length and electrical requirements.
The fact that a plug physically fits a socket does not, by itself, demonstrate that the product is suitable for use or sale in the relevant market. Applicable standards, testing and compliance requirements must also be verified.
As a manufacturer, Power Kablo evaluates standard and custom power cable requirements according to technical specifications. We focus on OEM and project-based manufacturing requests involving different country-specific plugs and device connections.
